Los Altos is mostly single-family homes, and a lot of the construction here is a full teardown and rebuild of an older ranch house. Those jobs run long, so a well-placed unit with regular service matters. Most of the work is in the neighborhoods spread out from downtown along Foothill Expressway, Springer Road and Grant Road. The downtown triangle around Main and State streets and the Rancho and Loyola Corners shopping areas see smaller commercial remodels.

Los Altos counts deliveries as part of construction activity, so we schedule drop-offs and pickups inside the permitted hours instead of first thing in the morning.

Construction hours in Los Altos

On residential projects, Los Altos allows construction from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Commercial projects get a longer day, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. No construction is allowed on Sundays or city holidays, and the city's rules include equipment deliveries. For a public event, the city's special event application has to be filed at least 60 days ahead.
